Government announcement today that we should stock up on food etc

Here is the BBC article:

Besides extreme weather events there is the danger of cyber attacks and warfare.

We are very far in the UK from self reliance, as a country/set of countries.

I've heard of 'preppers' - people who have already stocked up a great deal of supplies for the event of extreme conditions - often in the US.

There are also people who own bunkers.

This thread is to share ideas about:

1.  Whether you will actually do anything

2.  If so, what will you stock?

and any other comments about the situation, which is the first I've experienced like this in my lifetime.

I am thinking back to my parents generation and WW2, rations etc.

  • A couple of things bother me about the latest advice:
    1. water - so it's 3 lires per person for drinking and minimal hygiene, plus more for cooking and washing. So, what about the toilet? How many litres for that? It never comes up in advice, so are we expected to use the garden?

    2. - lots of advice on food, but what about how to cook it? Or boil water for drinking/washing.
