Government announcement today that we should stock up on food etc

Here is the BBC article:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp931m8n3p5o

Besides extreme weather events there is the danger of cyber attacks and warfare.

We are very far in the UK from self reliance, as a country/set of countries.

I've heard of 'preppers' - people who have already stocked up a great deal of supplies for the event of extreme conditions - often in the US.

There are also people who own bunkers.

This thread is to share ideas about:

1.  Whether you will actually do anything

2.  If so, what will you stock?

and any other comments about the situation, which is the first I've experienced like this in my lifetime.

I am thinking back to my parents generation and WW2, rations etc.

  • And next they abt to shut of satalites and TV transmitters so that means if the internet goes down and they need to convey information via a broadcast like hey did for COVID you only have radio which no doubt will go online only too but they may tell us to keep q radio for these situations only but who wants a radio thay can't have music when ever you want

I lik tv and radio as an escape from the overwhelm that tech causes and by that I mean smart tech so modern games systems and smart TVs where every inch of the complex menus also has flashing adverts sometime with loud sound

Also they want to stop cable TV hense all new virgin Media installs are fiber all the way to the pole and I coax to the home

  • I think keeping your car fairly full of fuel as if the electricity goes down then pumps won't work.

Will shops be able to sell anything all the payments systems are electronic, will they have the systems to take cash payments? Most of the tills won't open in a power cut.

One stupid thing I did wonder about was having an emergency underwear stash! I mean, don't you just know something like this would happen on the day you run out of clean knickers!
