Besides extreme weather events there is the danger of cyber attacks and warfare.

We are very far in the UK from self reliance, as a country/set of countries.

I've heard of 'preppers' - people who have already stocked up a great deal of supplies for the event of extreme conditions - often in the US.

There are also people who own bunkers.

This thread is to share ideas about:

1.  Whether you will actually do anything

2.  If so, what will you stock?

and any other comments about the situation, which is the first I've experienced like this in my lifetime.

I am thinking back to my parents generation and WW2, rations etc.

  • Here's a question.

    I usually keep at the very least, a week's worth of food + other (tinned and dried) provisions in the house to avoid constant shopping.

    In fact, if I totted it up, there is probably a lot of days worth here.

    So, do I need to actually do anything?

    Does your week’s worth of food all need cooked? If so, will you have cooking facilities in the event of a power cut or lack of gas supply? 

    I definitely have more than a week’s worth of food in the freezer. It would last for a few days in a large cool box with ice packs, but apart from the bread, veg and fruit, most of the food would need heated or cooked in order to be safe.

    I’m beginning to wonder if I should get a camping stove and camp saucepan now? I’ll check them out.

    I suppose that lacking power is another/different issue that you might need to prepare for separately (and that provision might not be needed).
