Government announcement today that we should stock up on food etc

Here is the BBC article:

Besides extreme weather events there is the danger of cyber attacks and warfare.

We are very far in the UK from self reliance, as a country/set of countries.

I've heard of 'preppers' - people who have already stocked up a great deal of supplies for the event of extreme conditions - often in the US.

There are also people who own bunkers.

This thread is to share ideas about:

1.  Whether you will actually do anything

2.  If so, what will you stock?

and any other comments about the situation, which is the first I've experienced like this in my lifetime.

I am thinking back to my parents generation and WW2, rations etc.

Parents
  • I've been stocking up for years.  Not much, just enough food for a month.  I also stockup medicines of all types.  I stock batteries. And I also keep cash hidden in the flat.  I don't trust cards and the Internet.

I periodically check the dates on everything.  Today replaced my antiseptic and painkilling ointments.  I always try to eat the oldest food.

I've also gone mad and have a years supply of toilet paper. Grinning
