Government announcement today that we should stock up on food etc

Here is the BBC article:

Besides extreme weather events there is the danger of cyber attacks and warfare.

We are very far in the UK from self reliance, as a country/set of countries.

I've heard of 'preppers' - people who have already stocked up a great deal of supplies for the event of extreme conditions - often in the US.

There are also people who own bunkers.

This thread is to share ideas about:

1.  Whether you will actually do anything

2.  If so, what will you stock?

and any other comments about the situation, which is the first I've experienced like this in my lifetime.

I am thinking back to my parents generation and WW2, rations etc.

Parents Reply Children
  • I find the thought of what people of hate might do frightening. I wish the world would calm down and stop prioritising insane desire for power, control and money.

  • No, but it probably should since I have a wife and kids. I am an agnostic atheist and I recently realized I’m coming out of a long period of deep nihilism, so I think that has made me rather apathetic regarding self-preservation.

On the other hand, we must be cautious of mass hysteria. Remember that people went absolutely nuts and bought an obscene amount of toilet paper around the advent of COVID-19. Try not to panic.
