  • Interesting, I can't say I understand all that you wrote, some of its a bit over my head. But, I think this has been coming for some years now, really since things like post viral fatigue and chronic fatigue were finally recognised.

  • I think we should think about stopping the us and them thing when it comes to medical breakthroughs and autism. If you look at the deaf community and their fears about things like cochlear implants, some see it as a good thing, others as an attack on deaf culture. I think we need to have a really hard think about what we want from these new medical breakthroughs, the unseen side effects as well as the physical ones. For example if we don't hurt and feel exhausted all the time, how will that effect how we feel about ourselves, about how others see us? 

    Will we have an injection or two and it will be right fixed now, go away, get a job and live a "normal" life? Our normal is different to that of others. We will still need adjustments because of autism, our brains won't change, how we process the world won't change.

    What if these therapies don't work on us? Or work differently?

    If the world dosen't change about how it treats people like us, will we end up with inflamitory conditions coming back?

It isn't a rigid, unchangeable machine. Our neural pathways, synaptic connections, and even structural gray matter are constantly changing, pruning, and rewiring in response to our habits, environments, and somatic practices throughout our entire lives.
    The issue isn't that our brains can't change; it's that under chronic trauma and unrelenting sensory masking, our neuroplasticity adapts to keep us in a high-alert survival state.
