Confused and need clarity.

Hi all. I've not been on for a while as have been quite introspective about my diagnosis and something is eating away at me. In my after interview conversation with the consultant/specialist, he said i am indeed Autistic with ADHD running co currently. When I got my piece of paper making it official, all it said was Having ASD, along with what to do next, workplace reasonable adjustments etc. And no sign of ADHD. Now, being autistic I naturally require clarity and feel adrift that I now don't know exactly what I am? What can I do about this as its eating away at me. It sounds silly but I don't feel validated or authentic.

Thanks for reading.

  • I can only speak about my own experience but i had my Autism assessment last year in the UK and i asked if i had shown any signs of ADHD during it and they said officially they could not say but they did say in a kind of 'off the books' way that i did present behaviours in line with ADHD as well. But my assessor was abundantly clear that their words aren't an official diagnosis and that i would need this to be done separately.  Based on my experience i'm surprised yours said what they did without giving some form of caveat.  Things may change in the coming years where they maybe diagnose both at time time and then give an Autism, ADHD or AuDHD outcome.  You would likely need a whole other assessment now just for ADHD, which is the boat i'm in also.  Personally im fine with just knowing myself that its likely rather than needing it right now but thats mainly due the cost tbh!
