Umm, I had taken a picture too, of the birds gathering to migrate. Mixed flock of swallows, house martins and sand martins. I counted over 250 dots in the photo, but the air was thick with them too.

I was worrying about bird survival, given the RSPB instructed everyone not to feed them during Summer. Really miss my personal little flock and hope they return.

Yes, I wonder when we are okay to put feeders out again after the summer? I haven't checked the advice.

The insects here have been in abundance with sun and rain, though that's obviously not been the case everywhere. With fruit ripening and seeds coming early, they might have been alright so far, but might really need that extra help over a potentially hard winter?

I hope your flock does remember and come back to you, they must learn where the best places to feed are at different times of the year with naturally occurring food sources anyway.

When we were away in Ireland, I couldn't feed the hedgehogs for 5 nights and none have come back yet sadly.

November - it seems an awful way off. but you can put out some suet balls and worms [RSPB].
