My wife's cat has disappeared and all I can do is keep imagining horrible situations and endings. Any tips on how to stop catastrophising?

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat, I hope they show up soon. These kind of emotions and worry can be quite normal.
A big thing for me is trying to cultivate presence and a sort of mindfulness. Avoiding worrying about the future is very hard, especially iniments like this. Instead of catastrophising and worrying on the things you can't control, maybe there are things you can do in the present like putting out posters or trying to figure out her favourite walking spots (maybe you've already done this). Worrying about the future will often turn to dark places, but they to accept what you can and be there for your wife.
I really hope the cat turns up soon
