Anyone else struggling to find a job?

I am a late diagnosed Autistic women (diagnosed nearly a year ago). I have a degree and work experience but still cannot find a job because of the online assessments. I find them so difficult and was wondering if anyone else is struggling with them?

I feel like they don't accurately reflect my capabilities. There was one I did where I had to identify facial expressions every 5 seconds and since I didn't do well on that section my feedback was that I was unlikely to work in a team (which is not true I have worked in many teams successfully before). Another assessment I had for a job opening asked me questions about being a picky eater, if I can handle plans being changed, if I can tell what someone is feeling based on their face, if I can tell when I have upset someone etc. I can understand how some of this will be relevant to working but I can't help but feel these assessments are deliberately made to find out which candidates are Autistic based on the types of questions. Has anyone else had difficulty with these assessments?

  • I'm appalled by these assessments after reading several people's experiences. They can be nothing but active discrimination surely? Especially if they are questions that have no relevance to the job, like fussy eating? Surely the NAS should be looking at these and campaigning against them?

I've heard some argue about the facial expressions one might have some relevance for public facing jobs, but even then I'd argue that they would have a company script for dealing with customers and complaints?
