Living with older teens and young adults with AS or HFA

Hi I just wanted to know if any parents/guardians/carers care for older teens and young adults with High Functioning Autism or AS or similar conditions.

By older teens/young adults I mean anyone aged 16-35 though this is just a guess.

I'm 18 and would love to know some of the difficulties and positives   of living with someone with HFA/AS.

Does the young person have associated mental health/behavioural difficulties?

Do you regard them as teenagers/young adults first then their diagnosis.

By this I mean are there times were you feel he's/she's just having a teenage strop for example or you know there is something bothering them specifically (i.e. Autism-wise etc).

I would love hearing others opinion on this.

P.S. This discussion is open to anyone I just thought this would be a great starting point.

urspecial.

Parents
  • I'm someone with autism lol, but I can tell you the downsides and positives with me.

Pros: I am good a being creative, can see things others can see and am caring towards others, I also have an above average intelligence

Cons: Find it difficult to communicate which can make me get depressed, anxious and frustrated. Am highly sensitive so I tend to overreact.
