New diagnosed Audhd

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping that you lovely people might be able to help me out.

Today I had my ADHD diagnosis after being previously diagnosed with Autism last year.

Whilst it makes sense due to the issues I have had all my life I’m just not sure how to deal with it.

I’m only just coming to terms with the Autism diagnosis and now this.

I guess what I’m asking is, is anyone else in the same position or has been and if so is there any advice or signposting that could help?

many thanks in advance Heart

  • I haven't been in exactly the same position, but I can understand why having two big diagnoses close together feels like a lot to process. You don't have to suddenly work out what everything means or make sense of your whole life straight away.

For me, it would help to give yourself some time with the ADHD diagnosis before deciding what you need to do about it. You might start noticing things from your past and thinking "oh, that explains that", which can bring up a lot of different feelings.

  • Hello KimmySunshine.

You've highlighted a very good point - it can be difficult knowing how to feel and adapt after receiving a diagnosis, especially where looking back and examining past behaviours - I know in my case, I certainly found this to be true.

you certainly deserve all the support you can get, and while I know that our wonderful community will have experiences to share, I would like to direct you towards our NAS resources:

    Autism and neurodiversity

After diagnosis - This does not cover ADHD, although, I wonder if perhaps there may be usage here.

Going forwards, I wish you the best in finding understanding.

    Thanks - Zac Mod.
