Bowie's daughter: 'treatment' centre + autism

I've been reading about Lexi Jones this morning and this has made me very sad.

The experience that she had at this 'treatment' centre sounds traumatising for anyone, let alone someone with autism (not diagnosed at that point):

This is an article about her diagnosis:

I don't recommend looking it up, it's heartbreaking that the parents are paying to do it to their kids.

I've read so many stories of children dying on those privately run 'behaviour fixing' camps.

    That is truly appalling.

This was the first I had heard of them.

That poor girl, those places should be made illegal.

I've read so many stories of children dying on those privately run 'behaviour fixing' camps. They shouldn't be legal.

    That’s what I thought too.

It's astonishing to me that the practice is legal.

That is such a traumatic thing to have happened to her. It’s a grim read and must have been frightening beyond words.

I’m glad she was able to talk about it and make her experience known.

    Yep.

Just reading about it filled me with dread.

A sure recipe for PTSD I should think especially considering her age when forcibly taken.

Also, while she may be an American, she does have UK ties, right? What if she were to start using this forum? We could already be friends with her and never know lol

Well, you are American and luckily for us are here.

I have thought that about other famous autistic people actually.

Wow… that’s crazy. Being Autistic and going to one of those camps? Absolutely nuts. No wonder it didn’t “work” for her. And what she said about the whiplash of living in an extremely structured environment to suddenly having complete freedom? Yeah, I could see that really messing with an Autistic teen’s brain. Good on her for discovering herself!
