Support worker

Hey, I'm new here, so please bare with me.

I was diagnosed with Autism in May 2026,  so I'm still figuring this out.

On my report it mentioned that I might benefit from a support worker, to help me and offer support, however I honestly don't know how to go about this?? I'm having big issues at work, leading to autistic burnout.

Any ideas? Thank you.

  • Hi there EllenMay, and a warm welcome to our online community.  I'm sure some of our community members will have been through similar situations and have advice for you.

In the meantime, I want to direct you towards our page on What support can I get at work? which discusses reasonable adjustments and the Access to Work scheme, among other things.  Access to Work in particular can be used to request a support worker to support you in employment.

As it hasn't been that long since you were diagnosed, you might also want to look at our After Diagnosis pages, which also talk about formal support you may be able to access.

    Best wishes to you!
