Reform to Benefit system

Just seen on BBC news about Reform proposal to scrap PIP and limited capacity element of UC. Apparently full details on Monday.

  • Even if they did get into power I can't seem them getting away with doing that, but it is a worrying sign about their feelings on disability. They will be seriously challenged by the media on this and I suspect its partly headline grabbing and trying to deflect attention away from Farage and the parliamentary standards investigation into the £5m he was given and donations from a fraudster. His by-election win isn't making that go away, it was never going to do that, Reform want to scrutinise everyone else but can't take it themselves, which are typical behaviours of bullies and thats what I think they are, it's all "poor me, look how horrible everyone is" followed by "everyones horrible to me because they don't like the truth and must be punished for not supporting me".

    There are several questions to ask about this narative;

    1, The blurring of the lines between the personal and political, particularly over "gifts"

    2, Who do they think they will impress with this attack on disability? It's just as likely to back fire on them as I suspect many of thier supporters are disabled and want more services and benefits for themselves and not "foreigners"

    3, The rules that apply to everyone else, shouldn't apply to him/them, because they're unfair.

    4, What is the Truth? Constantly dropping the word Truth into conversatons and diatribes, is a old conmans trick, the audiences brain latches onto that one word and associates that person with being truthful, even when they're spouting a load of old wallop.

    5, Indulgence for the self and punishment for everyone else, why are Reform/Farage unique in the need to be indulged and forgiven all sins, but everyboady else needs punishment? This is governning through fear.

    6, Where is the line between Farage and Reform? If Farage wasn't there would Reform drop in the poles and fade away like the other attempts at political parties Farage has been involved in?

  • Interestingly Sally in Breakfast TV asked the Reform MP about announcing this after the recent election when a large proportion of residents are on benefits there. The reply was a politician's response.

    Apparently they intend to replace PIP with a new benefit administered locally for only extreme disability,, so those who can't manage a whole week will not get support in work. I wonder if they have considered the cost of setting this up and the impact in between and necessary training.
