This thread is dedicated to  as he mentioned an old thread on this subject.

So, please share any 'wise' old sayings.

I'll start.

'A stitch in time saves nine'.

I'm curious about whether anyone under 50 mends (eg sews) their clothes to make them last in these days of cheap throwaways items.

Parents

  • “Oak before Ash, we’ll only have a splash;

    Ash before Oak, we’re sure to have a Soak”

    This refers to which tree gets its leaves in spring first and was said to determine which kind of summer it would be. I wonder which came first this year?! Wish I’d paid attention now!

    And my personal favourite:

    ”Red sky at night, shepherds’ delight;

    Red morning, shepherds’ warning”

    referring to the colour of the evening or morning sky and million of rain. Despite meteorologists saying this is rubbish, it has more often that not worked as an indicator for me. Can’t explain it, but there it is.
