Is secrecy an autistic thing?

I'm relatively new to this, and keep finding things about me that directly link to autism... I wonder: is secrecy an autism thing?

I can be _really_ private - I could give loads of examples (but they're secret!), though a simple one would be that while I'd happily ask this question here, I wouldn't talk to my partner about it, or I deed want them to know I was typing this here, now, on the internet... I don't want them to know what I'm doing in that space at all come to think of it!

So is this also (another) trait? I've seen it in my work context with young autistics which is partly why I ask... it's funny what you pick up from younger, less filtered/masking autistics - I hadn't realised that I stim in certain situations until very recently, and that was something I' seen in much younger autistics.

  • Hi

I am as described by people who know me a very private person. I don't talk about my personal stuff although sometimes I wish I could, it seems to be something that helps people cope with whatever it is they are going through. I think it may be that I haven't felt close enough to anyone or felt comfortable enough to tell them my problems.

I do find people tell me about their problems and I think I'm a good listener. I know just having someone to listen can be very helpful.

  • I'm fortunate to have a few friends that understand - I try not to talk too much about stuff I'm going through, as it's often tied up with trust, relationships, interactions etc and I'm loyal... It's also usually just my response to things and my own *** to work through. If I absolutely have to though I know have (and am lucky to have) people I can talk to. This place is useful too, especially so when specifically relating to autism and unlocking that.
