Panics over lost items

I went to pick up my guitar and the capo wasn’t where it usually is so my body/brain went into full panic mode. I wasn’t going to be able to sleep until I found it. But thankfully I managed to find it so, my body came out of panic mode. I legit felt myself relax the second my eyes caught it. Is this a normal thing for autism?? Or is it something else? It’s a normal thing for me. If I lose something my brain just starts going haywire and I can’t control it. It’s like nothing can be done until it’s found ya know?

  • I have this with keys really badly, I head into proper panic if the keys aren’t all accounted for. Unfortunately I live with someone who puts things in very random places. I also have people touching or moving my things, it’s a real problem.

    I frequently check my pockets when I'm out because I can't remember which one my keys are in. I try to keep them in an inside pocket or one that's zipped closed, otherwise I keep worrying that they'll fall out somehow.

    I bought a shoulder bag that has a tethered strap I can attach my front door key. It helps that I have a front door that doesn't l;ock automatically when I close it but has to be locked with the key. It's my phone I'm paranoid about. I once left it 200 miles away.

    I make the mistake of putting my phone in a trouser pocket once while commuting, it slid out onto the seat on the train and I didn't know it was missing until I got home and my mum told me someone had seen me leave it behind and dialled my home number. They subsequently contacted me to get my home address and mailed it back to me. I'm a lot more careful now, but did nearly loose another phone while wearing shorts, thankfully it was in the local park and I was able to retrace my steps and find it.
