Hi,
A few months before I was due to get married, I found myself thinking:
“Why on earth did I—an anxious, autistic introvert—agree to get married in front of a room full of people? And then spend the rest of the day with them too!”
So, I’ve tried to write the article I wish I’d been able to read before I got married: an honest account of planning a wedding as an autistic person, the mistakes I made, the adaptations that helped, and everything I learned along the way.
Although I began writing this for autistic brides and grooms, I hope this reaches any autistic person who has searched for their own experiences and come up empty-handed. The people who are trying to navigate a world that wasn’t designed with them in mind.
