Private Diagnosis?

Hi there

Wondered if I could ask some advice please?

My husband has been referred through the NHS for a full ASD assessment. He's really struggling, and the waiting time for the initial assessment is over 3 years, so we are thinking about going privately.

My concern is that if he is prescribed any medication, will the NHS honour the private assessment? I have contacted a place listed on the National Austic Society directory, but just wondered if people had good or bad experiences going privately.

  • When it comes to medicating, it's usually medicating for commorbid conditions and not for autism. I don't have official autism diagnosis,  I am also waiting for my assessment,  but I do get meds from a psychiatrist,  because my situation was very urgent. 

    Otherwise, I'm sorry, I can't advise anything more than what others wrote here. I'm going private, but I'm in Germany. I need diagnosis to have access to support group and to be protected in specific cases at work. Otherwise I get treated by psychiatrists for years, long before I even got any idea that I might be autistic.
