Is there anything you feel rather ashamed of having done or not done etc?

Mine is:

I have started but not finished The Remains of the Day, Never Let Me Go and Klara and the Sun (Kazuo Ishiguro books).

and many other 'worthy' novels.

  • Today I arrived purposefully late for a compulsory work social and made an exaggerated excuse to get out of go karting. Hoping not to get in any trouble for this tomorrow Joy

    How can a work social or go karting be compulsory?! That's so wrong and ND-ignorant. What are some good things we can say in that situation that can't be questioned, I wonder ... Thinking I often say "I'm afraid I don't have the capacity for that." Or what about "My gynaecologist has forbidden me from go karting." Sweat smile

    I was wondering the same Rachel Alice, what was the purpose of this compulsory socialising, what if you can't drive, I wouldn't know how to drive a go kart, I'd tell them I have a bad back and neck and can't be bashed into in case it causes more injuries.

    I must say BeaE, I don't think I'd do very well at your workplace, I'd have said no, I'm not going and if they offered to sack me I'd tell them to go ahead, if they wanted an unfair dismisal suit against them and all the subsequent bad publicity.

    When I was a teacher, I refused to do lunchtime duties (which the unions fought for and won back in the 70s but this school didn't seem to care) on the basis that I needed a full lunch break with no social interaction for my wellbeing. They couldn't do anything and there were no negative consequences but like you I would rather risk dismissal than suffer that!
