Respect

I think it's somewhat lacking these days.

I see a lack of it everywhere:

The way people relate to one another

The way people drive

The rubbish thrown away in public spaces

The trashing of our natural environment

The shouty politics

Cruelty to wildlife

What do you think?

I personally think the world would be a much better place if respect for everyone and everything, however different to us, and different their views (if human) were taught to children so that they could grow up to be respectful people.

  • I fiond some of the worst offenders are people of a similar age to me and we were brought up to respect others and our surroundings.

In some ways it's got a lot worse and in others I'm not sure how much it's changed, a lot of people don't know what their indicators are for when driving, I'm always noticing it in supermarket carparks, but then cars have got so much bigger that it often seems like you take pot luck when leaving.

I think there's always been a section of society that dosent' give a damn about others, who are happy to dump their rubbish all over the place.

I think a lot of political discourse has got worse sinse brexit and the advent of social media, people want sound bites not considered discussion, attention spans seem to have got shorter too, probably another side effect of social media. Social media and politicians seem to be telling everyone how badly off they are, which in many cases is true, prices have way outstripped wages, espcially house prices and rents. But there are lots of things that I think are being stirred up without a real cause, its just headlines and sound bites, click bait.

There has  always been a well of nastiness swilling about and now instead of just being confined to a few grumpies in the pub, they can reach out across the world and find others who agree with them and are even more extreme.
