Respect

I think it's somewhat lacking these days.

I see a lack of it everywhere:

The way people relate to one another

The way people drive

The rubbish thrown away in public spaces

The trashing of our natural environment

The shouty politics

Cruelty to wildlife

What do you think?

I personally think the world would be a much better place if respect for everyone and everything, however different to us, and differing their views (if human) were taught to children so that they could grow up to be respectful people.

Parents
  • Sometimes on this forum a person says something and another shouts them down.

I think it's quite rare here though and maybe that's because we are autistic.

Civilised debate and avoidance of conflict is much more common here, thank goodness.

Social media and its shoutyness must have a lot to do with the way people are now so dismissive about the feelings of others and in your face about their own views.

There are times when I miss the past and the way (some, not all) people related to one another and viewed the world (although I'm very far from wearing 'rose tinted glasses'.)

  • I was thinking of this also when sharing the previous video.

Sometimes it is helpful to avoid negative statements about someone else's individuality (such as "you are x or you are y"), especially when extrapolating from a few comments.

I don't feel particularly wise but it is the approach that sometimes helps me.
