Things HAVE to work properly.

Anyone else experience this...that things just HAVE to work properly?

I have had some issues with my aging laptop, and have had to reconfigure settings and software. I've been a bit obsessive over it the past week or so.

My brain seems to be wired to not rest properly until everything is working.

Thankfully it is working now :)

  • I've just had a load of updates that have turned on everthing I turned off and introduced others like a massive task bar at the bottom of the page that takes up about a quarter of the screen. A lowering of my line of icons so there are some that are hidden and it makes it difficult and labourious for me to get rid of them. I also dislike everything I look at creating an icon for itself, I like a tidy desk top page. Sadly though I often don't know how to fix it and have to ask AI and some things seem unable to be fixed.

I would check there is a corresponding entry for the app in question on the Start menu so you can still launch it, then go to the desktop, right click on the offending icon and select Delete.

It goes into the recycle bin so it is easy to get it back if you need to.

You should be able to click on the top edge of the taskbar and while holding down the left mouse button, drag it down to the smallest size. It if won't let you do this, right click on a blank section of the task bar and un-check the "lock the taskbar" option then retry it. When it is the right size, go back and check the "lock the taskbar" option again.

Unfortunately this sort of issue is a common one with Windows as Microsoft want people to have the options they prefer (especially around AI and collecting your data) so will often re-enable these options with updates. I always take time to check all the settings after a update because of this.

It feels like that sometimes LOL.

I don't have nearly as much time to post here as I used to due to lots of renovation projects and now having sold my own home I need to find one to rent for a while then buy another apartment to renovate - all annoyingly time and energy consuming.

At least Windows does not change its behaviour from one version to the next so it is quite predictable if frustrating. It is part of the reason I have started using Linux on one of my laptops so I can get away from the Microsoft shennanegans.
