My mum passed away last year at the age of 65. Last Tuesday marked both the first anniversary of her passing and what would have been her 66th birthday.
In her honour, I've decided to run the 2027 Manchester Marathon for Cancer Research UK.
Running a marathon has always been something I've wanted to do, and this gives me a meaningful goal to work towards while also supporting a cause that means a lot to me. It fits well with my fitness goals too.
It's a big undertaking. A marathon is 42.2 km (26.2 miles). I've been running for nearly three years and would consider myself an experienced runner, but I'll still need to significantly increase my weekly training volume to prepare properly.
It won't be easy, but I believe I can do it. If all goes to plan, I'll be crossing that finish line in memory of my mum while raising money for cancer research.
