Unmasking.

I got diagnosed last year and now I’m very interested in unmasking - personal examples being: expressing my humour, fidgeting out in the open, not maintaining eye contact all the time, initiating physical contact, and also making misunderstandings and mistakes of mine into something funny instead of having to feel embarrassed and like I want to off myself. I’d love to hear experiences of fellow autists unmasking and gaining a sense of freedom (and belonging?)

  • Yeah that's great. I first unmasked with my 'neuro-divergent' therapist about a year ago. Then I started going it on my own like walking back from a shop. I do a lot of mouth stimming with my jaw, it feels amazing like a surge of energy. I did it with my neuro-typical therapist last week which was amazing and I felt normal and could finally take in what she was telling me. I am learning about it too.
