Why do many people think autistic people can’t consent to sex and are afraid to take advantage of them?

That is why they ghost and block me! Because they think that I am able to consent and are afraid they are going to take advantage of me. Even if I tell them I can consent they don’t believe me. Why is that? Every time I tell them I’m autistic they always have these assumptions that I’m unable to make decisions because I’m autistic. Even if I get to know them and tell them I’m autistic they still have those assumptions about me. Why?

I suspect it is because of 2 key reasons:

1 - we are classified as disabled due to mental issues. Mental health still has a huge stigma and a lot of poor understanding around it from the population at large so many people will just avoid us because they have no idea what to do.

2 - our social skills often make us interact in ways that neurotypicals consider weird. This alone can make then feel uncomfortable and in todays society where there is so much social interaction available at the swipe of a profile on apps, why would they struggle with someone that they don't feel comfortable with.

I can't offer solutions as these are other peoples problems and it will probably take generations for people to start to accept autism as a normal part of the behavioral spectrum, based on how far society has adapted since autism became a mainstream diagnosis (since around the start of the century).
