Can you share your story?

The National Autistic Society is planning a fundraising campaign for August, and we’d love to highlight the Online Community.

We’re looking for someone who would be willing to share their experience of how this space has made a difference to them or their family. Have you found it helpful to receive or give support to people dealing with similar experiences? Have you enjoyed connecting with others who understand?

If you’re interested, we’d love to hear a bit about you, what the Online Community means to you and whether you’d be happy to share a photo of yourself for the campaign.

Taking part is completely voluntary, and you’ll be supported throughout to make sure you feel comfortable sharing your story.

If you might be interested in taking part, or if you’d like to find out more, please email Stories@nas.org.uk by Friday 29 May 2026.

Thanks for reading,

  • For me I got asked my the manager when I was diagnosed with Asperger and I said never. She then told me that she has a brother with Asperger and that I'm showing the same signs that her brother has. So it go me thinking about it for months, and I started to look into it. Doing my own research and its where I started to notice I was ticking all the boxes.

But I left it at that, as I was in a relationship with my ex at the time, and I felt like she might not understand me or that my parents understand me, thinking that there would say that I don't have Asperger and that its all in my head etc...

So when that relationship ended naturally and I end up living by myself for the first time in my life. I decided to get assessed and waited 2 years to see a specialist. The first time with my parents, then the last two times by myself. Then a few weeks later I got my diagnoses.

I am autistic and on the spectrum.

Now I'm just working though my thoughts and feeling of what all this means and who I am as a person. I now have accesses to my figit spinner and Loop Engage 2 earplugs for work.
