Waiting time between Diagnostic Assessments

Hello all,

It's been a long time since I have been on NAS.

I finally had an ASD assessment, only took 3 years nearly.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a gab between assessments and is this normal.

The reason being, I have recently had one assessment and was then told I had to wait approx 4-5 weeks for the 2nd, I was not given any clear indication as to why and I wasn't going to ask 'Why the gab'.

This has subsequently put me in a slight tail spin as I am doubting myself and the way I approached the assessment, wondering why its going to take so long.

Thanks all for your help and guidance. Its good to be back btw!

  • Hi. I am on the NHS list, having got through the initial stage of forms and an interview. When my son had his assessment he went on one occasion for the final assessment with an observer also. We were able to watch through a one way window.

I am interested in what the two different interviews involve and if this is the usual practice for adults.

  • Thanks for getting in touch, that's reassuring to know that even privately there is still a wait.

    take care, cheers.

  • Hey, I had mine privately, but I had to wait about a month between each part (and then a further month before getting the final call). I think it might be down to each assessor and what their policy is. Certainly they could do it quicker, but some places seem to have built in wait time. It could even be because your assessor is going on holiday for a few weeks and that's the next available time, I'm sure they wouldn't tell you even if that were the case!

I hope you can look after yourself a bit and do something you like to relax you, the waiting in between is very hard.
