Aq10 form

Hi, I have my 3 forms from Psychiatry UK to complete and one of them is the AQ10. How much do they focus on that one when they assess me? As I don't know if i'm overthinking them or not understanding them. but my score would be low if I just answered what i can.

thanks

  • All the autism tests have some badly designed questions, that are ambiguous or very situational. Also the ones (AQ 50) that ask what other people say to you are shockingly bad. "Other people frequently tell me that what I've said is impolite, even though I think it is polite?" Well no, because I have decades worth of experience in being polite and I can tell the difference between rudeness and politeness, I am not an idiot! Just answer the questions as honestly as you can, do not overthink your answers. There will be a huge questionnaire heading your way where you can add as much detail and nuance about your traits and history as you care to.

  • Thanks. I'm finding some things hard to answer, confused or hard to remember things, etc. I do feel the pressure of getting it done, as it says to complete within 21 days, so it must have changed.

  • Hi there!  I understand that the process of going through diagnosis can be a bit confusing and overwhelming, but you're not alone in going through this.  I'm sure our online community members will have a lot of good anecdotal advice for you.

You may also like to have a look at the NAS Assessment and Diagnosis page, which contains information about diagnostic criteria and tools that are used, as well as what information the assessors will be looking at during the diagnosis process.

I hope you find this helpful, and best of luck going forward.

  • I got my assessment through Psychiatry UK a few years ago (NHS transfer due to backlog), so I probably got the same forms. I've no idea what weighting they give to the answers, and I'm pretty sure they mostly use that as guidance for the person assessing you. I suggest not overthinking it, but definitely don't feel rushed. It took me months to finish mine, because some of the questions were hard for me to answer and I needed to make notes and reflect on things before filling in the forms.
