Newly diagnosed at 56

It took a while to ask my doctor for a referral for an autism assessment but it was worth it, having finally being diagnosed as autistic, having adhd and dyspraxia. It's early days yet, but it's reassuring to have my suspicions confirmed. I'm hoping that I don't feel regret for wasted years of not having been diagnosed!

  • I was diagnosed in my 40s and it felt like someone finally handed me the missing manual for my own brain. It took a while to sort through old memories without beating myself up, but it got lighter once I stopped trying to fit every old version of me into other people's boxes. Go slow, be kind to yourself, and let things click at their own pace.
