Questioning my diagnosis

Hi

It's 2 weeks since my diagnosis which followed years of researching ASD and I related so, so much to everything I read.

And now... I kind of dont! On hearing the diagnosis there was huge relief and i finally felt understood and seen. But now im questioning if I am actually autistic or if I just fooled the assessors.

Is this normal?

  • It is a fairly common reaction - imposter syndrome. Try not to compare yourself with other autistic people, they will tend to have some traits that you do not display. Try to compare yourself to the diagnostic criteria. If a clinician said that you had a physical ailment, would you question their judgment? Try to view the diagnosis as taking away any doubts you had, rather than questioning every facet of your 'qualifications' for being autistic.
