Autism can be expensive

After many years of use, I decided that my Summer jacket was now too shabby. Yesterday, I went shopping, looking for a light, informal jacket suitable for warmish weather. I tend to feel uncomfortable outside in just shirtsleeves, and where do you stow all the stuff you need to take with you? I buy clothes largely on feel, as one of my major sensory problems is texture and synthetic fibre textiles are unbearable to touch. There were some nice-looking lightweight jackets available, but they felt truly horrible to touch. This was repeated in a number of shops. Then I found a jacket that felt fine, nice colour, good fit, ideal. Of course it was 100% linen and three times the price of any of the others. I bought it, just thankful to have found something I could stand to wear. Autism can be expensive!

That could have described me to a T

I used have a nickname (not of my choosing) of 'Pockets' as I was always the one who would get told to carry the stuff so others could not wear a jacket.

  • You could do what most women do and carry a bag?

I think clothes are expensive, certainly if you want something that will last, I don't mind paying for quality, but there is a limit to what I can afford and price dosen't always reflect quality, I've seen some shockingly poor quality and expensive stuff.
