Telling family members

Hi I am new on here . At the end of 2025 after getting in contact with my GP I am now on the waiting list for an assessment. Only a couple of family members know . One of told me they think I am autistic.  

I am 34 and due to a few reasons I am living with my parents at the moment . I have not yet told them and don’t know how . I wondered if anyone had an experience of talking to family members .

    I agree with  that bringing one of the family members that knows is a great idea. You might also broach the topic slowly, mentioning how the term for Autism has changed over time and what constitutes as being Autistic first. Maybe if your parents know another individual with Autism, you could point out different traits they have that you share with them. The point is, you could actually get your parents to either guess that you are Autistic first or have them be less surprised when you tell them if you gradually get them interested and knowledgeable in what Autism is.
