"small talk" at work

Anyone else struggle with what is acceptable to talk about at work? Like I would say something I thought was okay, only to be told later by my supervisor / manager it was inappropriate. Just wondering if anyone has tips of suitable topics / conversations which I can focus talking to colleagues about, so I don't talk about something inappropriate. Links to resources that list appropriate topics to speak about is highly appreciated Slight smile

  • Do you want to do small talk?  Coffee and the weather and where you are going on holiday or what's on TV are generally safe.  Personally, I can't always be bothered with it and just get on with what I'm doing, unless I know the person well - and then we talk about all sorts of stuff.
