Better start saving for next winters fuel bills

Today petrol has jumped by 2p a litre on the forecourt, gas has almost doubled in price so we can expect a deepening of the cost of living crisis. Thank you very much to Donal Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu....not.

Ok nobody I know liked the regime in Iran, but just blowing them up was never going to work, did it not occur to them that the Iranians would fight back? The clerical regime in Iran is just as entrenched as the Catholic Church, you wouldn't expect to blow up the pope and St Peters in Rome and have no one to take over. I'm sure the Iranian regime has just as much structure and fall backs as the Catholic Church does. Now we all seem to be getting dragged in, I'm really pleased Starmer said NO to Trump using our bases, there's no legal basis for this war and I suspect that as ever America just wants us along to help with the death toll, it's about time a British PM didn't follow the US blindly into its foreign wars.

Whats even worse, is that from everything they keep saying, they don't even know why they went to war in the first place and as ever theres no plan for what ahppens when the war ends.

  • Do you know what the price per litre is? I think a gallon is about three and a half litres maybe four litres, so I guess that would equate to about £5 a gallon? The exchange rate today is £1 =$1.33, so ssomeone with better aths than I can do the sums.

  • For some people, petrol always costs £20 although 'your mileage may vary' Smile(another entry for the irritating phrases thread)

  • I have been trying to limit how much I drive since the war started, but given I have to drive 35 mins to work and I have to drive my clients around… Yeah, I consume a lot of gas.

  • Prices are up for gas here, too, but I have a bad habit of not normally paying attention to what gas is worth lol. Terrible habit, I know. My wife thinks I’m nuts for not caring which gas station sells the cheapest.

I feel like it’s been about $10 more expensive per tank for the last few weeks.

  • I think everybody thinks Trump is an aberation and when he goes normal relations will resume, thats unless of course we all end up with someone just as bad?

Trump says he didn't believe NATO allies would come to America's aid if needed, my understanding is that NATO is a defensive alliance, if Iran had attacked America we'd all be there, but as it was the other way around, we don't have too. I think this ill thought out attack hasn't gone according to what ever fairytale plans were made and now Trumps bored of it and wants out. But now he's disrupted everything, he wants others to come and pick up the pieces, how could any allies trust that as soon as they arrived, that Trump wouldn't just pack up his navy and take them all home and leave like they did in Afghanistan?

I managed to get petrol at £1:35.9 today, other places are selling it at about £1:42,9 and some of the out of the way places at £1:50 a litre. Prof, I wonder how that would go down on your side of the pond?

  • Perhaps when he isn’t president things will be stable.

He makes conflicting statements about what he’s fighting for and why he wants the Brits. He could stop this illegal war now.

It’s good to have you here and to hear your perspective.

  • ‘Not Our War’ U.S. Allies Balk at Trump’s Strait of Hormuz Demands - NBC article

Hey I’m glad y’all are fighting back against Trump, but I really, really hope that his nonsense doesn’t impact U.S. relations with NATO post-Trump.

  • It has the potential to spiral into a world war, one missile was shot down by the NATO system after entering Turkish airspace. The article said if Tükiye decided to, they could call on NATO for defence then all NATO countries could be dragged in.

Trump is saying the same things that Putin did in his illegal invasion of Ukrainian.

I can't mention the other one without becoming over emotionally angry so I will just hold my tongue.

  • It makes the argument for less reliance on oil and more investment in renewable energy increasingly urgent. There’s no point in having oil when our access to the biggest sources is cut off because the US and Israel have a notion to go to war illegally and without a plan.

  • I just hope that whatever president comes after Trump will focus the entirety of their career on rebuilding trust with our allies.

  • If I lived in a country next to Iran I'd be wondering the same thing.

I agree Trump is a bigger threat to the world than China, or pretty much anyone else, I might put Israel up there with Trump, Netanyahu is just as bad.

I think America has proved itself an unreliable ally since the Trump presidency.

I suspect Trump will think that everyone can go to America rather than anywhere else, just as we can buy oil and gas from them too.

  • Encouraging to see.

I have listened to some political commentators saying that Arab countries would feel let down by Trump after agreeing to allow US bases on their land for protection. Instead they have become a target for missiles from Iran, and despite promises from the US that they would effectively protect, they haven’t stopped all attacks from killing and injuring innocent people and damaging buildings. Even if the war stops now, it is going to be a long time before tourists want to go to these countries. Trump doesn’t seem to have considered that.

Countries who have traditionally relied on the US as an ally now consider it an unreliable partner. I hope politics can change dramatically after Trump and that international relationships will be conducted in mutual respect.

A poll in the UK a day or so ago shows that the public here think the US is more of a threat to world peace than China is. I’m sorry I don’t have the source as it was something I heard in the radio.

  • I don't think Briitsh people are any more supportive either and want to stay out of it. I think theres a general feeling of our leaders being spineless and unable or unwilling to stand up to any POTUS, we get nothing but more danger from followiing America's lead in these foreign adventures.

I'm not having a go at you personally.

Petrol has gone up another 4p a litre today, I really think we're being ripped off.

  • I think petrol stations are making money hand over fist out of this prices at my two local garages have gone up nearly 10p over the last few days, every day sees another price hike, I don't believe they get deliveries every day so I think it's opurtunistic and their ripping people off.

BBC Verify is saying that it was an American misile that hit the primary school killing over 100 children, Trump of course continues to deny it and BBC Verify say they will keep checking informatio as it comes in.

  • I wonder what Jesus would say?

“Thou shalt nuke them before they nuke you.”

Pretty sure I read that in my Bible.

  • This man says he's a Christian, I wonder what Jesus would say?

    Indeed!

Meanwhile the so called ‘Peace Council’ is inactive and Gaza is again facing food shortages, price hikes, border crossing closures and a health crisis. Some political analysts are suggesting that Trump is using the Iran war to maintain instability in Gaza. It would be hard to argue that it isn’t deliberate neglect.

  • Pete Hegseth seems to revelling in the loss of life and the body count. This man says he's a Christian, I wonder what Jesus would say?

  • The former President of Ireland Mary Robinson was in Belfast for International Women’s Day today. She said the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran are "illegal and breach international law". Robinson said the suffering women and civil society had endured in Iran did not justify "an aggressive war" and that it was "causing even more misery".

  • He has messed up big style.

There is no better time for reasonable countries to stand up to Trump.
