Wow. Young people are getting mean

I don't know if I am getting too kind in my old age or just soft, everything seems kind of agressive and based on lies. I am always curious to know others vibes of the times we live through, I suppose this is all a normal part of aging and the World is on a kind of endless repeat with minor improvements.

  • Being the sort of person i am I looked it up online and yes there is strong evidence from academic studies  of rising social hostility, interpersonal distrust, and exclusionary behaviors, particularly within online and school environments.

    These studies explore a rise in social hostility and distrust among young people that is driven by a combination of algorithmic influence and the developmental disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.  The algorithms in social media mean that their social and behavioural "diet" is very narrow and lack of early years socialisation feeds the "mean-ness" 

    There is a move towards banning social media for under 16s - perhaps this is necessary under the circumstances.

    Truth be told though I have had an element of fear of young people ever since being young myself.  Memories of childhood bullying and exclusion are a little hard to overcome!

    Overall tho' it still very much depends upon the individual and their circumstances I think and I have been fortunate to meet some pleasant and well adjusted young people.
