Dream job?

When I was in primary school. I was always looking at books with trucks, Simi-trucks and all that, I even said I wanted to be a truck driver, but that wasn't true, I wasn't interested in reading then or now, When I was in High School, even though Music and History were my strongest subjects, I wanted to try and go down the medical rout and become a doctor. But by 4 years, I got into the higher class, but the words got bigger and more complicated to understand, so I lost my confidence there, and then, I shifted my attention to Music and history. Being the only two subjects I ever got good marks in and the only ones I've ever passed, I went to college and studied music for three years and did one year in Audio engineering, So my main focus was to be in a band, perform on stage, write music and all that, Which I do these days, But not as often, My other jobs include, Video editing, Filmaking and photogrophy,

Going through College, I was doing videos for Youtube and I needed an editing software, I used and still use Sony Vegas, and from then I started to get used to doing video editing and that's how I ended up with that job in the first p[lace, Eveyrone always asked How I got into Video editing and media production, Well, I didn't It just started as a hobbie.

Has anyone else ever gone through the same experience?

If so, I would love to hear

  • if you’re ok that the workplace is run by underhand and complicit individuals you can do any job, everyone will tell you it’s normal. I Have always had a dream one day I might become a master chocolatier.

  • I always wanted to do something with art -whenever anyone asked that's what I said. I was good academically across the board as I could memories textbooks, but I never really considered doing anything other than art (despite a poorer background, so I would need a real job at the end of it). I thought I'd go to art school and then figure it out. Then I found a uni course that did art on computers and it clicked that was what I wanted to do. The course was fairly new, being back in 2002, but it was great as we covered a lot of areas, from life drawing, photoshop, photography, audio, 3d art, character design, animation, basic coding and I got to do some modules in Japanese too.

I got a job as a junior games artists, thanks to my husband(then boyfriend) where he worked, then got the chance to specialise in animation when they needed help in that department which was really exciting. I did get to a lead animator role last year, but then burnout meant I had to quit.

I did manage to get another job, after a break. I'm in a senior role in another company, the pressure is way less at least, but it's been less satisfying, though at least I'm still animating.

  • The only thing I remember wanting to be when I grew up was a hippy, I think I've been a stunning success. Other than that I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up, I have so many interests and I've never had a career path more of a career tangent!
