Dream job?

When I was in primary school. I was always looking at books with trucks, Simi-trucks and all that, I even said I wanted to be a truck driver, but that wasn't true, I wasn't interested in reading then or now, When I was in High School, even though Music and History were my strongest subjects, I wanted to try and go down the medical rout and become a doctor. But by 4 years, I got into the higher class, but the words got bigger and more complicated to understand, so I lost my confidence there, and then, I shifted my attention to Music and history. Being the only two subjects I ever got good marks in and the only ones I've ever passed, I went to college and studied music for three years and did one year in Audio engineering, So my main focus was to be in a band, perform on stage, write music and all that, Which I do these days, But not as often, My other jobs include, Video editing, Filmaking and photogrophy,

Going through College, I was doing videos for Youtube and I needed an editing software, I used and still use Sony Vegas, and from then I started to get used to doing video editing and that's how I ended up with that job in the first p[lace, Eveyrone always asked How I got into Video editing and media production, Well, I didn't It just started as a hobbie.

Has anyone else ever gone through the same experience?

If so, I would love to hear

  • As a kid, I changed what I wanted my dream job to be almost every week depending on what my interest was at the time. When I got to secondary/high school, I was told that 'author' wasn't a job, but that I could be an author while doing another job. So I settled on teaching, and originally it was teaching english literature. Not because I had an intense passion for it, but because I loved reading and did well at the subject. But then I fell in love with woodworking and Design and Technology - I did TWO GCSE's in it. So, I decided I would teach it. But then sixth form was a horrible time for me, and I ended up dropping my DT A Level course. And since so few universities do it at higher education, I settled, again, for English Literature. I'm now doign English Literature and Creative Writing at university, and I'm not having a terrible time. But I'm still so sad that I can't go into teaching in the area I want, for reasons beyond my control. I have the skills, whether practical woodworking, or design-wise. But not the qualifications. And unfortunately, teaching requires the qualifications moreso. I've considered falling into the publishing world, and have now managed to do some light work in it, purely because I have my own enjoyment of graphics design and writing which nicely overlap. But, at the same time, the publishing industry is a hellscape for 90% of the people trying to get into it. So, it's just a bit of a tangled mess. I get falling into a job or skillset by accident, and it's nice but emotionally complicated at the same time!

  • I'm 73, I've worked in research, teaching and consultancy. I haven't decided what I'm going to do when I grow up.

  • Something to do with character design, cartoon or animation etc.

I'm already a freelance comic artist, I'd feel elated if someone noticed my worked and decided to take me on board, ngl

  • I always wanted to do some sort of teaching. If you think about it, my current job is still kind of like teaching because I’m training people to get ready for the workforce. But yeah, teaching music is something I might get back into someday. Idk.

Oh, there was that time when I was in kindergarten and I was obsessed with becoming a tornado chaser. I don’t really think that’s the most stable profession though lol.

  • I always wanted to work in animation, but the clay wallace and gromit old school animation. Failing that working for a car company and unsurprisingly making a to scale clay prototype.

  • if you’re ok that the workplace is run by underhand and complicit individuals you can do any job, everyone will tell you it’s normal. I Have always had a dream one day I might become a master chocolatier.

  • The only thing I remember wanting to be when I grew up was a hippy, I think I've been a stunning success. Other than that I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up, I have so many interests and I've never had a career path more of a career tangent!
