CPTSD or autism

Hi,

I'm in the middle of a autism and ADHD assessment (private). I told the assessor that I didn't have an informant before I paid upfront. I hadn't realised how sketchy memories of my childhood were and now she is pushing for me to find someone to gain more information. I have CPTSD but can't remember when the first event happened as I was very young. I didn't want to get my kids and ex husband involved as I wanted time to process the whole thing, whatever the outcome. I have had no contact with the rest of my family for over twenty years. Has anyone else been in this position?  Many thanks.

  • I had no family available to consult in my assessment but do have good recall of my childhood so the assessor was happy to work with what was available.

They did mention that for older patients there are often situation where there are no living family members left to consult so they need to work on the information that is available instead. This is part of the "professional observations" element of the assessment.

You could see if you have old school reports in the archives somewhere or medical reports from early years in case there is anything there to help.

In the absence of evidence I recommend speaking to the team who will perform the assessment and explain the situation and ask how they plan to work in the absence of this information. Keep this in writing and you can escalate it to the management if needed.

This would be my approach anyway.
