Very late diagnosis

I was recently told during PTSD treatment that the therapist thinks I'm autistic. They suggested that I get an official diagnosis for it although couldn't really explain when I asked how that was going to benefit me. I've been divorced for a long time and have always had big problems trying to make friends and keep relationships going. Does anyone have any tips about making and maintaining friends/relationships?

  • I was 53 when was assessed. I've always struggled with the whole human connection thing and it's getting worse as I get older.

I've joined a few groups and although I don't think I've made any friends, although they are friendly (if that makes sense), it's been good to get out there just to see new people who have become familiar faces.

  • Thanks for your kind message Herge. I've always had problems as well with people, so my main connections have always been with my dogs (who unlike humans always love me unconditionally). I've never felt like I fit in with other people and although I'm very good at small talk - find it exhausting,  not fun and it never leads to long term friendships or relationships.
