I completed a Foundation Degree in Computing back in 2014, then a Degree in CS 2 years later. But almost 10 years on and there still isn't anything suitable where I am and elsewhere in the UK.
Back then (in 2016), I did apply for a few opportunities but ultimately had limited commercial / personal development experience which must've went against me. But since then, I have been actively upskilling, by doing a range of technology courses. Also almost have a 3rd project completed for my GitHub repo. Initially, I worked at a local Transport company as an Assistant Administrator PT for 4 months but then was made redundant, as the role was rather 'volatile' in nature. Changes in bookings etc made when you're out of the Office and no one there to answer the call when you're out getting the mail in the Business Centre. Some months after that, I started working at Tesco for just over 4 years in 2 roles. After that, I done a 6 month remote paid Internship through Ambitious about Autism with one IT firm (dealing with insurance etc) in London. But unfortunately, they didn't really have any other work to keep me going beyond July that year and the role was fixed term in the end. Was unemployed for little over a year and then joined a local Pharmaceutical firm. Have been there for a year and 4 months and getting on rather well. Was promoted once. I do like my current role but there is one aspect of the work that is quite complicated for me to wrap my head around (information overload and I don't feel comfortable doing it), when you're working with multiple invoices and uploading them etc. Might see if I can access support to simplify work expectations through Workable. Not sure whether that would be possible or not. Does anyone else know?
Over the past few months, I did apply for Junior QA Tester roles through Study Smarter UK online. But I was shocked and found it soul destroying to see that there were already 200+ applicants in for a position. I did apply to that and other roles. But I think AI was probly used to examine my CV (better version) and then must've put me out of contention. In the best case scenario, I would prefer to branch into QA / Software Testing work. If anyone has any advice around that, feel free to share.
Does it have to be that? - no. I am open to other options and relevant suggestions from others. I would be open to remote Admin work (provided its with a Disability Confident employer), with suitable work conditions. Or Web Design (if there is someone who is open to pairing up when working freelance for an already established firm).
