Autistic joy

I would really like to start a thread on autistic joy and what that means to different people. I am only at the beginning of my autism journey and learning everything about other people’s experience of life as an autistic human bean is interesting to me. I think I have felt autistic joy through specific sensory things I like to do. I love a particular fluffy texture and it really makes me calm but incredibly happy inside. Anyone else got such an experience?

  • Wooden boxes, for some reason. Love a wooden box, especially if it has compartments.

Wanted a wooden tray for our Christmas hot chocolate station and found one that has segments that can be removed - four squares and a rectangle. Also found some jars with wooden lids that matched the tray and fitted *just* right. So satisfying.

  • Your description is so satisfying to my minds ear that I started googling images of boxes with segments and jars just to be able to see it too. For me there’s something really special about things having their place … and objects perfectly contained inside other objects.
