Hi everyone,
I’m aware that in England it’s absolutely acceptable for GPs to refuse to refer patients for an autism assessment, just like it’s fine for them to decline a certain prescription. They are the gatekeepers and have the right to refuse.
I’m curious about real-life experiences. If you’ve ever asked for an autism assessment and your GP refused, would you be willing to share what happened? For example:
-
What reason did the GP give?
-
How did it affect your next steps?
-
Did you manage to get a referral eventually, or go another route?
I know I could Google reasons why GPs might refuse, but I’m more interested in personal experiences and insights. If there are any GP's in this forum, have you ever refused an assessment and what was the reason.
Thanks in advance for sharing!
