Advice on assessments

Hi,

I'm 42 and recently realised I am autistic as well as ADHD (known since childhood about 11) and am waiting on an assessment through right to choose and someone called Clinical Partners I think? I'm good and life is much better in the sense I know about why i've experienced life like I did etc. But I am a bit nervous about the assessment which hopefully should be next year at some point. Does anyone have any good advice for me with what to expect, what I should do to prepare and what the process is like? Oh and its an adult autism assessment in case that wasn't clear :-)

Many thanks

A

  • Don't know if everyone sees this but I finally got diagnosed with asd and adhd! Took a long time and a lot of life hard work etc but nice I finally have answers and an identity so to speak. Just wanted to update everyone as I said I would! A

  • Hello. I'm glad you managed to reach a conclusion.

It helps to have some certainty, to be believed and to know that things are this way for a reason.

I hope you find some ways to make things easier for yourself.

  • Thanks very much, that's kind of you. I'm trying but its rather difficult at times, but the main thing is knowing now that i'm not just a weird anti social ex addict and that I was born how I am! Being sober is a BIG adjustment but i'm getting there slowly and surely, i've just adopted a very quiet hermit like lifestyle which works really well for me. I just need to stop letting things get to me so much. I'll get there i'm sure! Thanks again for the reply.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the reply, its a brave new world as you can probably imagine. But i'm getting there slowly and surely. I basically drugged and drank from the age of 11 to about a year ago. So its been a big shock to feel sober and all my ND stuff come to the fore so to speak. I also kind of just have my cats to lean on so its hard and I also struggle with help as I have a big thing with autonomy and people talking about me etc. I'll get there though but its quite good to be able to rant on here ha ha. Thanks again for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it. A
