Participants wanted: Identity in Autism and Personality Disorder

Note: This account only posts external research that has been approved by the NAS research team.

We are a team of researchers at the Centre for Mental Health Research at City St George’s, University of London working closely with autistic lived experience advisors. We are very interested in making the autism diagnostic process and mental health care services fairer for everyone.
-
We are doing this study because many people currently diagnosed with 'borderline personality disorder’ ('BPD', also known as ‘emotionally unstable personality disorder’/‘EUPD') could be autistic but undiagnosed. Gender-diverse, trans, and non-binary people could be misdiagnosed or not believed by clinicians and struggle to access appropriate help. We would like to know if there is a link between a ‘BPD' diagnosis and unrecognised autism in gender-diverse people, so that everyone who needs a diagnosis can access one.
-
The study involves a few short questionnaires and an hour long interview with a researcher about your experiences of diagnosis and identity. The interview can be completed online, over the phone, in person, or in writing.
-
We are looking for gender-diverse people who have received a ‘BPD’/‘EUPD’ diagnosis and are diagnosed or self-identifying as autistic. At this point, we are prioritising participants from minority ethnic/Global Majority communities to represent their voices.
-
You will receive a £25 gift card for taking part in the study.
