Poppies and rememberance

Do you wear a poppy and go to rememberance services?

I feel really ambivalent about them and it. I wish there was more focus on those who came/come back brokens. I say this as the Grandaughter of one of the "lions led by donkey's", my Grandda suffered from what we now know as PTSD, he sacrificed his sanity and the legacy still runs through our family to this day. Why do we not remember the sacrifice people like him made?

  • So how would you describe the general who ordered his troops to keep on fighting for the last 10 minutes of the war, at least one British soldier was killed and I don't know how many Germans?

Perhaps you could also explain to us why the aristocracy are so special and have a right to govern and rule?

  • Also the lions led by donkey's line is a absolute lie.

Can you point to any proof to this accusation?

The vast majority of the command structure in the army at the time was from the aristocracy so the blame for failed battlefield tactics (some recurring many, many times) falls squarely on their shoulders.

The vast majority of the upper echelons were certainly able to keep themselves out of harms way while sending the troops in to die so they weren't exactly taking the risks they expected of their own troops.

On the face of it the saying about donkeys and lions certainly seems valid but I'm open to being persuaded with erifiable facts.

  • I rather think that many of the generals and other 'red tabs' were lacking in imagination, if not incompetent, and callous as to the loss of life and numbers of wounded that their decisions led to.
