A recurrent smell nobody else can detect?

Hi. I was wondering if other people here also have the following feeling: a sudden smell that is always the same or very similar. It’s like something burning similar to someone smoking or something related to some type of combustion but definitely nothing to do with it. It’s the only way I can explain it. Sometimes it is so overpowering that it even changes a little bit my voice tone as if affected by the strong smell. I even went to a specialist years ago and got checked through an ultrasound machine to check if there was something undetectable from the outside. Absolutely nothing showed up. This can be present for days or weeks. Then it goes away and then it’s back. I’ve had it for at least 15 years.

  • Hi Sub.
I too have this on occasion… and funnily enough it’s happening now!

I went to the docs a few years ago and he thought I was mad! It’s the same smell - burning type of smell. Like a match has burnt out. Takes me a while to realise it’s me and not something actually burning. Comes and goes. Sometimes a week or so. I heard about Phantosmia and just decided to forget about it.
it’s an odd feeling for sure. But doesn’t really impact me too much now I know (or assume to know) what it is.
