Book recommendations - autistic women / LGBTQ+ authors

As the title says, I'm looking for some book recommendations so I can do some reading about autism and hopefully gain some insights into my own autism / AuDHD. I would prefer a book that is written from a personal perspective (like an autobiography) rather than a factual, study text written by a psychologist or doctor because I am an empathetic and emotionally driven person so personal perspectives are more interesting to me. I am a non binary female (gender questioning) so a book written by a woman or trans / non binary person would be perfect.

  • The Autism Assessment Clinic where I received my diagnosis recommended ‘Spectrum Women’. I found the personal accounts enlightening and they helped me understand myself better as an autistic woman. This is definitely one of the better books on autism around and my favourite.

I am awaiting an ADHD assessment and I’ve found it difficult to find a book on AuDHD that suits me.  I have just begun reading ‘Welcome to AuDHD’ but I haven’t yet been drawn into the narrative, nonetheless, it might suit you.

  • Thanks ArchaeC. Those look interesting. I haven't requested an ADHD assessment yet, in my area they have stopped allowing Right to Choose for ADHD assessments for adults so the wait would be several years so in my mind it's not worth asking, I'd rather wait and hope they accept right to choose requests again at some point.
