NT Behaviour - Like living a world not designed for anyone other than the architect to work in.

Can someone please explain to my why they think NTs are so agressive and exclusionary towards neurodivergent types?

The term NT is only something I have become familiar with here, but wish I have a couple of decades ago. I have always been quite open to conflict resolution, but didn't understand why so many young people were closed to talking and working with me. I realise one size does not fit all.

I have quite an in depth understanding of personality types, but i am coming around to the way of thinking that Myers- Briggs is quite a blunt tool which does not in any way account for neuro divergence.

  • In my opinion:

Myers Briggs is descriptive but not predictive, i.e. you do some questions and it tells you what you are, not why you are, and you can't predict what you will do just based on it. It gives preferences not behaviours.

It is a combination of upbringing, past experiences and life that shaped you. Being an introvert could be for a number of reasons.

There is a reason why psychologists don't use Myers Briggs. I looked at it, which was a useful entry point to understanding myself, then moved on.

You can be ND and still fit in one of the categories, like INTP.

It is a little like a horoscope, you can read into it what you want, but it's a bit better than that, and it is interesting. It can help people to know themselves better and highlight weaknesses, but the insight comes from looking at yourself truthfully, and seeing what the opposites to your preferences are, basically your shadow. As a tool to help that it is fine, but I am not sure it does too much more.

I think it is largely NT/ND agnostic.

To comment on the title, I think much NT behaviour is more superficial, less thought and driven but more emotion driven. Its why I struggle I think.

  • Yes, I always felt in spite of testing as the same type that the outcomes were slightly vague and horoscopic. It doesn't really account much for the individual. I'm not sure I would look at it the same way now as ND spectrum seems to preceed any preferences imo.

NDs have to be bilingual in a metaphorical sense, in that they are constantly having to adapt. The idea of offices even the workplace to me is outmoded, because it largely accomodates for dominant NT behaviour.

I don't think it is as secular as saying there are a higher number of extraverted NTs and introverted NDs but there does seem to be a little correlation there. This is very general I would like to see more research into it.

  • Maybe because so many have been taught to fear anything that smacks of difference or mental health issues, I think sometimes it could be the way we tell people, if we just announce it without context, then it lands like a wet fish, leading people to think,'what do yhou want me to do about it?' Personally I find that giving people some positive things, courses of action etc leads to a more positive outcome.

It also depends on who you're telling and what the context is, if you tell a group of mechanics or engineers, they will instantly think of it as something to be fixed, this leads to frustration fo rall involved as it can't be fixed. However telling them what you need in mechanistic terms that they can relate too will have a better outcome. Always give others a chance to ask questions and to offer what accomodations they can make and come to agreements rather than be inflexible and not open to negotiation.

  • Not at all. I have been told that before. I appreciate your clarifying that.
