Travel Insurance while awaiting assessment

Hi,

I'm aware there are already posts about getting travel insurance, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with companies which have provided them travel insurance while awaiting assessment?

Annoyingly, awaiting autism assessment seems to be covered under the "Are you awaiting investigation?" question they put on the form. If you answer yes to it, then most seem to say they cannot insure you. Comparison sites also refuse to provide quotes. Any that do work ask you to ring up, which I've no problem with, but I don't want to ring and sit on hold, chat through everything, to then be told they can't insure me or for them to give an excessive quote.

Thanks

  • Well I regret my decisions.

Around the time I posted this, I had gone through a price comparison site and answered "no" to the medical question to find the cheapest, then emailed them to ask if awaiting autism assessment is considered awaiting test results.

First they answered that yes it was and I couldn't be insured with them. I questioned why they couldn't insure me, as they would insure me if I had autism. They then changed their mind and said no, awaiting autism assessment is not considered awaiting a test result.

It was about half the price of allclear, and given I was more familiar with amdiral, I went with them.

They've now emailed me saying my answers for a quote and the policy were different so I need to contact them by phone or email to ensure it is correct. Following the instructions I emailed them asking if I was insured.

They responded that I needed to call them to make changes to the policy. I replied that I didn't want to make changes, I just wanted written confirmation that I was insured. They replied back that this couldn't be done via email. I replied back that I need the written confirmation, and I had followed the instructions in the email. They replied back that I need to call them, that calls are recorded and I could request a confirmation after the call.

I've told them to cancel the policy and issue me a full refund so I can take out a policy elsewhere. I'm not having my money at risk while they decide if I'm insured or not.

I don't understand how a company can be so unsure of their own policies, yet still answer with such confidence. I'm tempted to try reporting them to the FCA.
